Kedri & the town of Wyndmee
The vast open shire of Kedri is one of many places to find the warmest and most welcoming of people, despite almost being wiped off the map during the war. Many halflings call it home and it boasts some of the best food and wine produce in all of Yamikora. Kedri is situated by the shore, the beaches are stunningly beautiful and the distant town of Krek can be seen from the rolling hill burrow homes of the halflings.
The halflings here fought hard and won, but at a cost to their way of life which has only started coming back within the last ten years or so. They're survival was due in part to the werefolk village of Wyndmee which partnered with the residents of Kedri to push back a fearsome Gruzglug the Gnoll and his banshee minions. The combination of devious halflings and savage were folk were more than a match and formed a stronger alliance than before.
Sadly, for the werefolk of Wyndmee they were targeted by Gruzglug a few years later, forcing the survivors to flee to Kedri and take up residence on the fringes, swearing vengeance on Gruzglug and vowing one day to reclaim their rightful home from the monsters that haunt it. Unfortunately they're too few in number and have slowly been dwindling, struggling to bear offspring. The halflings do everything they can to help them, many seeking help from outsiders on their behalf to try and help their kin in arms.
Many famous and well travelled halflings hail from Kedri, a majority are scholars, researchers, and young adventurers seeking a variety of things that they wouldn't normally get to experience on a farm in the shire.
One such Halfling of note is Xanther Padfoot, an anthropologist working for the great museum of Argathia who is know far and wide for his knowledge and his thirst for adventure and most notably for his skills in uncovering ancient civilisations. He's been on a mission to find a way to help the Wyndmee werefolk as he was helping rebuild the village when it was attacked.
This cause is personal to him as he saw a great deal of bloodshed from the massacre, and whilst helping an injured werebear mother escape with her child, passing away in the back of the hay cart before reaching help in Kedri, leaving Xanther with her young toddler to care for. He raised the cub as his own in the shire until he found work in Argathia and now regularly is on expeditions for the museum, despite secretly trying to find something - anything - to lift the curse off Wyndmee and its people. It's important he finds it as he doesn't want his son to suffer the same fate.
